Argument analysis on The Struggle to be an All American Girl

Through her write-up, Wong tries to emphasize in an educative way the importance of respecting once own culture and value is despite its cruelty or uncivilized as elaborated in this paper. According to Wong’s argument, it is obvious that an individual, especially at a younger age, will always be attracted to a more civilized culture that what he/she has been brought up in. sometimes we are even tempted to denounce our own culture for the others. Wong was bored and even irritated by her own Chinese culture such that he denounced it and chose to be an American. However, the outcomes of this may not meet our expectations and one may end up regretting choosing a foreign culture instead of his/her own.

For instance, personal desires and interest may be blurred by the hidden interesting aspect of a decision one is to make. Like in this case, Wong’s mother forced them to attend Chinese class, which they felt it was not appropriate for them. They wanted to interact with other American children in public schools and learn their culture. They could even blame their mother for failure to understand English. They had become fanatical in English and disregarded their language. Probably, this might be the reason why Wong says that she is still not happy. We never learn the impacts of a trouble until we get into it. The wrong face of a tribe is usually hidden by the interesting part of it.
