This approach is applied in education where the teacher guides students in constructing knowledge. He/she should monitor the students own learning by emphasizing student responsibility, choice, as well as ownership of the learning process. This approach assist learners in solving problems related to subjects especially mathematics as they own the information and the steps required. Ideally, Lopez et al (2016) comments that learner centered approaches encourages retention of the learnt content as students occasionally reflect on what they are learning and how they are learning it. This encourages responsibility which is the key focus of the learner centered teachers. In addition, the teacher should systematically guide the students starting from the known or simple to unknown complex details. This is what makes for example calculations relevant to the students.

Curriculum strategy appropriateness Considering the age of the learners, Lopez et al (2016) affirms that the curriculum should be well strategized to facilitate effective learning. Calculations involving whole numbers can be appropriate curriculum strategy in a learner centered elementary instructional setting. The instructors may guide the students in calculating after proper preparation which ensures fruitful engagements. This approaches increase students motivation and builds their metacognition which result in self-regulated lifelong learners. The use of short quizzes, summaries and checklists keeps the students alert and attentive in class as they focus as grasping all the teachers’ guidelines. Instructional Strategy Appropriateness The use of discussions and formative assessment as the instructional strategies results to effective learning among the students. For instance, group discussions adhere to learner-based approach since it ensures all students participate in the discussions as part of the group.

The discussion ensures participation of all the students as they give their views on the topic of discussion. A wide range of activities can be incorporated into the lessons to enhance student understanding of the curriculum content as stated by Rodwell (2007). Experiments in science-oriented subjects are an example of a learning activity. Gardening and planting for agricultural matters is also another way of learning for the students. Constant practice in math subjects and continuous study in other subjects' amounts to training, which is required every student to ensure that they all grasp the curriculum content. Appropriate learning activities are required to ensure effective learning of mathematics that mostly challenges the students. Lopez, M. J. S. H. , AGHAYEVA, C.
