Changes in technology of microprocessor knees
Document Type:Speech
Subject Area:Health Care
With all these advancements in knee prosthetics, it occurs that numerous considerations need to be taken into account when deciding on what type of knee prosthetic to apply (Torrealba, Fernández-López, & Grieco, 115). For instance, transfemoral amputees may need to consider such aspects as functional performance safety, stability, and activity level. The peg leg was perhaps that earliest form of prosthetic for leg amputees. The system was common for below the knee amputees. However, this initial design was crude and offered a number of limitations that could lead to other skeletal system complications. Ideally, patients who can control, at will, the stability of their assigned prosthetic under virtually all dynamic conditions can use the basic single axis designs of the microprocessor prosthetics (Laferrier, Justin and Gailey, 212)This applies a simple hinge and is simple.
