Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Number Date Film Analysis: Jurassic Park Jurassic Park film is an American Science fiction adventure movie that was directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie’s setting is the fictional Isla Nublar Island located off Pacific Coast of Central America where a small group of genetic scientists and a billionaire philanthropist have established a wildlife park with cloned dinosaurs. Since the film was portraying a case of what existed in the past it incorporates sound designs that have tried to mimic what could sound like the real case. The film has included a mixture of different animal noises that currently exist in our real world and utilized various sound aspects that blend with the audience’s imagination of the film. The film has used music that has good trees and kills Muldoon. The dialogue words “Clever girl” shows that Muldoon admitted defeat. He knew that he was yet to be killed and he did not have to scream yell or panic. He does not become angry but instead shows respects for the raptors for out-hunting him a veteran hunter. This dialogue helps us to understand how the dinosaurs are very intelligent and strong to overcome the human experience in nature. All the soundscapes and sound designs together anchor the sounds meaning of this film to frighten and intrigue the audience to keep watching. [...]
You will write a three page paper (typed and double-spaced). Using a film of your choice (I have chosen Jurassic Park), analyze the way a movie uses the following: Sound Design. Discuss how dialogue, music, sound effects, sound hierarchy, perspective, and sound bridges contribute to the structural design of the movie and its story. You don’t have to discuss every single one of these elements. Pick the most relevant and important of these elements. As you discuss how they are used in the movie, be sure to give specific examples from the movie. Here is some notes from the class that might be helpful: Types of sound: Dialogue Sound Effects Music Functions of movie music Leitmotifs Sound Design Blending sounds Sound hierarchy/perspective Sound bridges Offscreen sound Sound Montage Be sure to pick a movie that lends itself to this type of discussion. Not every movie will make use of these elements in a significant enough way to write an analysis about. Also, be sure to include an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement that sets up the movie and the specific aspects of editing or sound design you’ll be discussing. You are not required to do any research outside of the text and chosen movie, but should you choose to do so, you must include in-text citations and a works cited page.
