A suggestion or complaint box will allow patients and members of staff of the hospital to put their suggestions or complaints into the box without fear of victimization. The hospital management should encourage their patients and staff to present their complaints and suggestions into the box. The hospital can analyze the suggestions and complaints received over a period of time to determine the quality of the services offered at that particular period. Through suggestions and complaints availed by staff and patients, the hospital management can make out the feelings of their patients. Secondly, a hospital can measure the quality of the healthcare services they provide by evaluating the total number of patients that visit the hospital to access these specific services as compared to other hospitals.

A high number of patients who show improvement after receiving treatment in the hospital is a good indicator of the quality of the service provided in the facility. A low number of improvement cases is a cause of worry because it may lower the credibility of the hospital patient care services in general (Mainz, 2003). Memorial Hospital is vulnerable to potential costs and failures in quality because of the selective nature of the Medicare services that they provide. Failures in quality in a hospital are completely unacceptable because it puts the life of the patients in danger. For example, due to the inadequacy of medical equipment, longstanding health problems may not be treated even after diagnosis. In addition, the management shows a lack of commitment to ensuring continuous quality service delivery to the patients.

Janice should ensure that the hospital's workforce is competent enough to provide the best care possible through constant training and benchmarking. Furthermore, she should ensure that the employees are motivated enough to continuously improve the process and the medical facilities are equipped with the right equipment to ensure all patient care needs are taken care of. The Memorial Hospital can use several methods to assess the quality of healthcare that they are providing to their patients.
