Improving development outcomes for people with mental illness

The Preliminary Proposal should be no more than two paragraphs which explains what the topic is, provides the direction that your Research Paper will focus on and the justification for why this is an important policy issue. Including data to support your justification is encouraged. The Research Paper should: 1) explain why the problem was identified as worthy of a policy solution 2) explain the history of the problem 3) provide data that supports the extent of the problem 4) consider key stakeholders that play a role in the policy (e.g., providers, payers and purchasers, patients, communities, policy-makers, other groups) 5) examine how the policy solution is positioned to improve the public health problem or performance of the U.S. health care delivery system It is recommended that students select a policy in one jurisdiction (e.g. either a single national policy, or a single state/local policy). The Research Paper is to be approximately 6-8 pages in length (double spaced, 12 point font, 1 inch margins), excluding the cover page and reference page. More is acceptable. Including charts, tables, etc. is appropriate, even encouraged but should be placed in an appendix and not included in the total page count. Be sure to reference the chart or table appropriately in the body of the paper. It is required for the student to obtain reputable sources for their papers. Use of Wikepedia is not acceptable. It is expected that you will only utilize scholarly sources in the development of the Research Paper. The Research Paper, again, must be written utilizing American Psychological Association format. Citations within the body of the Research Paper and a reference page (not included in total number of pages) are required in APA style. Your grade will be deducted one-half letter grade if it is not written in APA format. The citation for APA 6 is included with the list of supplemental readings. Use scholary journals of choice.
