While there have been instances when the standing of Russia seemed to be changing for the better in the West, unfavourable views have majorly prevailed amongst journalists, historians, researchers and politicians of both fronts (Cole and Symes, 2015). The Western understanding of Russia has been trapped in a non-productive paradigm. The West claims to be focused on how it can prevent the use of nuclear weapons and control the world economy. According to the West, Russia does not cooperate in the considerable sanctions but instead continues to maintain close relations with the countries supporting nuclear weapons (Duiker and Spielvogel, 2008). For Russia, it focuses on how it can continue to be the superpower, with a stable economy, functional society and favourable regional interests (English, 2000).
