Minority Groups and the Court System Student’s Name: Professor’s Name: Course: Date Due: Minority groups are described as the groups of individuals that have less power or control on matters regarding their lives as compared to other groups of individuals who perceive themselves as having more power and control since they consider themselves the majority or the dominant group. In a majority of the cases the minority groups tend to have disproportionately narrow opportunities in terms of education success wealth among others as compared to their populations in the society. The paper seeks to differentiate between implicit biases and stereotypes as well as explicit stereotyping to together with attitudes. In addition it will explain how the proceedings in the courtroom might be affected by biases as well as how the judicial system is affected by racial disparity in sentencing. Implicit biases can be explained as the attitudes and stereotypes when the blacks are victimizing their fellow black people or the white victimizing the white. For the crimes that are lower-rated like drug and property crimes the blacks and the Latinos receives a treatment that is harsh than that of the whites (Kansal 2005). The entire instances are an indication that due to the racial difference between the whites and the Blacks and the Latinos the sentences given tend to vary. The whites under all circumstances tend to receive less severe sentences. This racial disparity in sentencing leads to the judicial system becoming unjust due to the bias. References Kansal T.
