Therefore, the experiment considered chronological and mental age (Lee, 2015). In his experiment, Piaget used observational studies since the test involve observing children at various stages in development; the sensorimotor, preoperational, and the concrete operational stage. The experiment involved testing the cognitive functioning of 3 children: Keyleigh who was 2 years old, Antonio 6 years old, and Alex who was 11 years old who were at the sensorimotor, preoperational, and concrete operational stage respectively. For Antonio and Alex, the experiment was about conservation of number. The experiment involved a test on the conservation of volume of water in a glass. Conclusively, he deduced that children are not less intelligent than adults, only that they think differently (Lee, 2015). According to Lee (2015), the experiment employed the use observational studies on the three children where they were systematically observed testing on their behavior and actions without any interference.
