In the Paleolithic era, the human body depicted the sense of fertility in the woman and protection in the man. Images of male figures appeared with lean figures which pointed to the hardy nature of those able to survive during the time1. The women were depicted with huge bosoms and wide hips, which was an allusion to their fertility. The most notable is the Venus of Willendorf, made around 30,000 BCE2. It is an image that was carved out of stone and discovered in a cave in Willendorf, Austria. Unlike the sculptures of the Near East, stones were carved by the Egyptians which depicted humans in elongated bodies. The sculpture of Menkaure and his queen, 2548 -2530 BCE, depicts this elongation in good detail.
