Emergency Preparedness Discussion Name Institution Course Professor Date Data Collection Methodologies in an Emergency- Discussion In essence investigating human behavior is an essential factor in managing emergencies and crises of all kinds. Gaining data and necessary information from survivors of a disaster gives emergency management agencies an opportunity to best understand the complexities that influence behavior and public response. By doing so making community-based strategies for risk reduction is enhanced. As much as the involved bodies spend resources and time in disaster detection and other technical aspects the human behavior aspect has been regarded to be as important in this regard since resilience in communities can be important in reducing the risks involved (Bird et al 2011). The kind of resilience in this case is the ability of the community to make a timely recovery from the disaster and move forward. The first approach in impacting resilience in the video interviews were used after a long period it can also be used as an immediate response like in the manner journalists carry interviews out on respondents on the scene to establish facts: although these facts cannot be used for academic matters. Questionnaires often need to be followed up with other methods. Unlike questionnaires which are rigid and closed video interviews are elaborate and may provide more detailed information as well as portray things such as tone and emotion. Video interviews are therefore more helpful and detailed. They can also provide people with detailed information on emergencies of all sorts from the survivors’ mouths unlike questionnaires that may always leave one with the need to know more- ambiguity is lesser with video interviews.
