Among the most significant and intriguing issues in the book is the character of daisy that has fallen in love with men characters in the novel. These men include Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. The two are pivotal figures in the novel as they possess many attributes that make them similar but also others that separate them from the rest. The paper will critically analyze by comparing and contrasting the character of Tom and Gatsby and the role of Daisy in building the plot. Tom and Gatsby are far much alike in many aspects but differ sharply when it comes to societal views. Daisy is Tom's wife, but then daisy and Gatsby have memories which bring them together again. Nonetheless, of the two Gatsby looks more attractive and loveable as he has wealth, he is friendly and sincerely loves daisy, but Tom just wants to own her as a wife (Fitzgerald, 23).

On the other side, they are different as Tom an athletic person than Gatsby as he had great opportunities of playing in the sports back in school. Tom is also a strong believer of racism, and he feels that all blacks are below him and also perceives the poor, women and less fortunate and as low social class (Shmoop, p.
