Until his death in France on October 22nd, 1990, Althusser has been known for his intellectuality and influence on the Marxist philosophical theories. In the year 1948, Althusser acquired his degree in philosophy which made him secure a teaching job at the same university, Ecole Normale Supérieure for 32 years. The man has been detained severally including during the WWII and in 1980 where he strangled his wife. He was confined up until his death in 1990. It is remembered that Althusser tried to merge Marxism and structuralism in the year p1960. The systems are used to interpellate their subjects, help maintain order in the society together with reproducing a capitalist relation of production (Althusser-98). In this piece of writing, I am going to explore the media and how they are used as an ideological state apparatus, the role of media in upholding the dominant ideology and also how they promote opposing ideologies.

I will also discuss how the media influences the exemplification of social relations in the society today. Media plays an essential role in the conveyance of information around the society. It is because of this important obligation that makes mass media accountable for the way the community act together. It is because of the ideology that Hollywood is spreading that people can enjoy and still not get the consequences of doing so. The film industries are also using a particular way of the framing of their images to present information to the viewers. They edit the videos, position cameras in precise angle to suggest a message and also use specific texts and voices to pass their knowledge. Mr. Žižek continues by saying that people are now more likely to buy sausage that is labeled “fewer fats,” coffee that has no caffeine and also buys an apple that is half rotten because they are said to be saving the environment.
