Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Number Date Introduction Historical growth of graffiti traces back to human existence and modernization. Graffiti has been visible from the ancient city of Pompeii which the walls were scrawled with graffiti to the projects in Los Angeles. Modern day graffiti began in the late 70s in New York City (Blanché Ulrich 32). During that era the youths extensively sprayed trains subway cars and walls giving them a rebel status and a voice to convey the social injustices that existed at that time. Graffiti is very controversial and in most cases it is associated with decay of the communities where they are found making it illegal in most cases. However in most cities it is considered legal since it is considered as a form of expression (Blanché Ulrich 32). Graffiti has started to gain recognition worldwide for their true purpose which has always been to "Some people become the police because they want to make the world a better place while some become vandals just to make the world a better-looking place" and people are opening up to this reality by embracing graffiti as art.
