Hemingway is the only male writer amongst the three. They all lived and wrote during the same period of history. These literal legends were not Florida natives although they settled in the state for the rest of their lives. This essay seeks to compare and contrast the works of these writers as well as highlighting about their interest on Florida. Ernest Hemingway’s works are regarded as classics of American literature. Hemingway is arguably one of the fathers of American literature. Zora Neala Hurston and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings lived most of their lives in Florida. Hurston settled in Eatonville while Rawlings in Cross Creek. Hurston loved Florida because it was a symbol of freedom to her. She was a daughter of former slaves.
