"The Croods"

Writing Topics for APA Paper over “The Croods” Choose one of the three: 1. In the film, “The Croods,” there are a lot of changes. Discuss how the film shows a change with the different levels being met in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (or if you have a different needs scale that you prefer). Review and analyze how the film shows this process. 2. The concepts of light and darkness are brought up in many ways in “The Croods.” Review and analyze how the film brings up both the literal and figurative light, and discuss how this changes the Croods and Guy. 3. Seeing completely new things and environments can be shocking, scary, and/or amazing. The Croods learn to hide in the dark, but Guy was told to “follow the sun.” Review and analyze the coping and survival methods the Croods (and Guy) learn on their journey to “Tomorrow.” This is the grading breakdown for the APA paper (in case you are curious). The same rubric will be used, but the content is worth more points. Originally this paper was worth 300 points, but since I was unable to meet with you the week before, I am knocking the points down to 200 (like the MLA paper). APA format (*Don’t forget: everything will be multiplied by 2 For total points). Correct format (margins, headers, etc.) 15: Cover and Abstract 10: Minimum of 3 typed pages, excluding cover, abstract, and reference pages. 15: Reference Page 10: Sources and Citations 2 sources- 1 print, 1 electronic (Textbook, Wikipedia, and blogs don’t count as legit sources) 10: 2 in-text citations 10: Content Content (don’t give me a summary of the movie…) 30: No first or second person or contractions (-2 points per use) We will have class on Wednesday, and I will meet with all of you about your papers and answer questions, etc. I would strongly suggest you bring a completed paper for me to go over. This way your paper will be in better shape for the final turn in. The final draft needs to be turned in to me BEFORE 5:00 PM on Thursday. Bring it to my office in Bonner Hall 213. If I am not there, you can leave it in my mail holder or slide it under the door. **Notice: There are NO late finals or rewrites for the final paper. Extra info: APA papers MUST have: A cover page An abstract page 3 pages of the actual paper A References page APA Info: In “Everyone’s and Author,” beginning on page 463 through 510 is the APA section. This has a lot of good info. The “Little, Brown Handbook” (12th edition) has good information. Page 823 begins the section on formatting APA. The Writing Center has several handouts available on APA formatting, sources, and an example of an APA paper. The Purdue Owl has a lot about APA and also has examples. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ If you did not see the movie, "The Croods," then look for it on Netflix, Redbox, used books/movies store, see if YouTube has an option to view them, or check out Amazon. Sometimes they have a download.
