Student’s Name Tutor’s name Course DateReflection Assignment 4 Summary of the Article “Growing Up is Harder to do” is an article written by Furstenberg Kennedy Mcloyd Rumbaut and Settersten. In the article the authors narrated how American teens after the end of World War II assumed full responsibilities of adulthood when they are still in their 20s. By that time majority of young men were done with their studies whereas young women were already married and had children. This is very different as compared to nowadays when people attain their adulthood and are not responsible enough to take care of themselves. This made scientist to come up with the concept of “early adulthood” which resembled the situation that was during the period of late 19th and 20th centuries (Furstenberg et al p 33). As discussed by the authors in this authors in have tried to understand the current trend of family lives which is very different from some decades back. I believe that it is in deed true that childhood and adolescence has been extended into young adulthood. This can be supported by the facts from the national bureau of statistics which has records to new marriages. From the data new marriage records shows that majority of couples get married in late 20s and early 30s as opposed to how it used to be some times back when most marriages comprised of couples who were in their early 20s.
