According to Woodside and McClam (2015) human service professionals undergo lots of challenges in the identification of individuals with specific needs. In addition the human service professionals must also come up with the best model that is bound to address the issue at hand. In this regard, the problem associated with teenage pregnancy is one that cannot be ignored. In this respect Koh (2014) implores that one of the strengths of the medical model in handling the problem at hand is that it fosters for the provision of healthcare needs of the mother.

For instance the teenage mothers can undergo treatment and checkups to ensure that their unborn babies are healthy. The limitation of the medical model is its limitation in handling abstract yet important factors contributing to teenage pregnancy in the United States. Such factors include low self esteem, broken households as well as sexual coercion. The other model is the public health model that provides a deeper insight into the issue at hand. For instance families that are characterized by substance abuse may not offer the best environment for taking care of an infant. The other challenge which may act as a barrier to receiving help is when the mother fails to trust the human service professionals as the teenage mother may want to keep a child but may be unable to take care of it financially.
