It affects the way we communicate, the way we dress, our belief system and values. Africans usually tend to seek greener pastures, good education and a better life and that is why they relocate to the places that can offer those opportunities. Whenever people move to places that have a different culture from theirs, they undergo a culture shock due to the conflict of their culture and the new culture. It is usually difficult for them to fit in, make friends and adjust to the new system of life. The author highlights the changes that have occurred in the gender roles. Women have turned out into dressing clothes that show off their bodies so as to attract attention from the opposite even when they are married.

This kind of dressing is against the African culture which prohibits indecent exposure. It also greatly affects their children since they watch their mothers walk out of the house naked and believe that they too can dress in the same manner. It is also difficult for the mothers to correct their children on half naked dressing when they themselves are practicing it. The book also does emphasis on the importance of language. These parents should however practice the habit of cooking native dishes so that their children can be accustomed to them. The African dishes have a wide range of benefits. Training the children at an early age would help them develop interest in the native dishes. The author states that, “Parents must endeavor to feed their children with their own home food and get them started with those buds before they become selective” (45).
