Continuous positive airway pressure therapy is generally used in the intensive care unit (ICU) and the emergence department. However, for the patients who require this therapy at home, nasal prongs are mostly used because they provide a pneumatic-splint that helps to hold the upper airways open. It provides positive airway pressure throughout all the phases of spontaneous ventilation (Medscape, 2018). Apnea monitors are also known as cardio-respiratory monitors; they are normally used at home mostly by children and infants who have underlying medical conditions which might result into prolonged episodes of apnea and hence life threatening (Sterni & Carroll, 2016). Apnea monitoring is also important in adults as it has been seen to reduce mortality and morbidity. Respiratory care in alternative setting. Retrieved from: https://prezi.
