Conawapa Generation Station: Environmental Impact Assessment Report Executive summary This essay was sanctioned as term paper in Environmental Impact Assessment. The essay is an EIA report on the Conawapa Generation Station Project in Manitoba. This is a project proposed to ensure more hydro-electric power production to cater for the existing power deficit and for the looming deficiency. The EIA Report looks into the environmental impact of the project and looks into mitigation mechanisms that can be implemented to ensure that the project is undertaken with minimal environmental impacts. Introduction Project overview Manitoba Hydro has a proposition to build the Conawapa Generating station at the lower side of the Nelson River. This generating station would be the largest of its kind in the history of Manitoba with the ability to produce over 1485MW of electricity. The generating station would be approximately 210 kilometers downstream of York Landing and upstream the when completed will be able to provide electricity to the region and cater for the existing and looming deficiency. Nonetheless the same is not without environmental challenges given the location of the plant. For it to be implemented successfully and to ensure minimal environmental consequences the authorities have to put up stringent measures and follow up activities to ensure strict compliance with environmental requirements.
