The model and its components are the main barriers to achieving the main system's objective. The main aim of this paper is to discuss challenges faced by the criminal justice and security systems and also highlight the key components of criminal justice and security and how they affects the system. In my opinion, I believe the shortcomings of the system are caused by the major key players in the system namely the courts, police and the prison system. The current criminal justice and security system is faced by a couple of complex and major challenges. It struggles to respond to youth-related crimes, adjust to decisions made by the court regarding police powers, eliminate organized crime and grant police with lawful access to any citizen's information and property among others.

Additionally, police engage in corruption. It may be a low level which includes picking of small bribes or high level which includes selling of illegal drugs. In a research conducted by Andrews et al. , (2010), it was shown that a fifth of police who rode on police cars had committed corruption in one way or another. On top of that, there have been many scandals of rampant bribery in some police departments. A rich culprit may walk scot free for a crime he committed while a poor culprit with the same offense will receive a death penalty (Reiman et al. On top of that, there is plea bargaining. This path is favored because it assures a reduced sentence as well as the low expense and time consumption.

However, if a defendant chooses a free trial and is found guilty, it means that they will be punished more severely since they are trying to deny their crime (Ashworth & Andrew, 2015). Some critics say that defendants are being forced to take this path even when they have the chance of winning the case. Take an example in the US; some studies show that Whites are less likely to get the death penalty than African Americans who committed the same crime. This suggests that the system values some lives over others. Additionally, capital punishment is much more expensive than keeping a criminal in prison for life. In conclusion, it is evident that the problems that the system faces are caused by the system's main stakeholders namely the police, the courts and the prison system.
