The main difference in these two judiciary bodies is their jurisdiction, which the constitution bestows to them. Moreover, the two types of courts have different levels hence having their hierarchy that is there is the lowest to the highest state or federal courts in the United States. These two type of courts functions almost separately but somehow they are similar. Starting with the state courts, the lowest in rank is the Lower State Courts. These State courts vary due to the state's constitution, which it forms the system of state court hence the difference as per the country. The highest ranked judiciary in California State is the Supreme Court. California Chief Justice and the six Associates Justices make up the Supreme Court of California.

It has the original authority over various cases, which include the habeas corpus happenings. Apart from that, the primary function is to revisit all the rules made by the appeal court of California, which also translates to where death penalty ruled by the subordinate courts. San Francisco hosts the headquarters of the California state courts. There are thirteen appellate courts in the United States. Out of the ninety-four federal district courts, they regroup themselves into twelve regional circuits, where each channel has a court of appeal. Eleven channels have numbers; for example, the fifth circuit controls Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi while the twelfth circuit, which the District of Columbia Court of Appeals leads the only Washington D. The sole significance of the trial appeal courts in the United States is to chair the appeals from the district courts that are within the circuit. In another case involving human traffickers accused of smuggling young women from another country, for example, Eastern Europe in the United States for prostitution issues, then the matter should fall under the federal courts (Low et al. This reason is that the case is involving two different countries, which are the United States and Eastern Europe. Apart from that, the issue also includes different states where there are prostitution rings. Moreover, the smuggled young women are from a different country other than the United States hence qualifying the federal courts. The state courts usually deal with the violation state laws, but in this case, the federal and governments are in the middle.
