War on drugs Essay

Law enforcement agencies have focused on a way of fighting against drugs but the war has not succeeded. The fact that drugs have many adverse effects in the society makes it necessary for every government to focus on a way through which it can successfully emerge victorious in the war. In some countries, drugs have an economic advantage to the traffickers and the producers or manufacturers. However, once used by different groups of people, they end up making the society uninhabitable because of problems such as increased crimes, mental illnesses and increased number of dependents in families. The effects associated with drug use have necessitated the war against their market, manufacturing, and use. Kids grow in a society where they get exposed to challenges and they may decide to use the easiest path to evade them.

Based on the data acquired about the state, it was clear that the implementation of better policies would protect the current and future generations from engaging in drug abuse and overdose thus securing their lives. While some people associate drug use or overdose to bad parenting habits, others feel that people should embrace the right morals and the government should deploy strict measures to curb the problem (Walker, 87). According to the CDC, addiction on different types of drugs may take place slowly but might eventually ruin a person's life once they become addicted. The paper applies both legal and moral perspectives of dealing with the issue of drugs and focuses on providing long-term solutions to the people in the society. The activity started during the Nixon era when the drugs crimes went up to felonies.

The criminalization of drug use resulted in more challenges because the people found on the wrong do not have an opportunity to learn and change from their past. Even after incarceration, there is a high probability that those drug users may continue with the process because they will not have gone through counseling and rehabilitation. Putting more emphasis on rehabilitation will play an important role in ensuring that drug users can make behavioral changes and understand the effects of using drugs to their health, their families and the society at large (Lassiter, 131). A large percentage of drug users get involved through peer groups, social problems and through discrimination that makes them feel isolated from the society. As a way of succeeding in reducing drug use, creating awareness in the society would provide a long-term solution because people will understand the effect of their behaviors and avoid using drugs.
