Siblings Rivalry
However, there is a higher probability that the rivalry will end if the sibling hated becomes more successful than the others as in Joseph’s case. In the story, there are two circumstances that force the fate of Joseph, even his being sold out to the median merchants for Egypt. First, there is the father's love for Joseph as compared to the other sons. While the elder sons like Judah and Reuben attended to the flocks at Shechem, the father spent quality time with the youngest of the sons because he was the son of his old age. The first is the father's favor upon Joseph. This possibility is foreshadowed in the faces of the brothers as contrasted to that of Reuben.
