E and Basilica of Santa Sabina c. 432 C. E. The Basilica of Santa Sabina c. 432 C. E is a marble sarcophagus measuring 4x8x4 feet. A sarcophagus is a box like vessels for a corpse carved in stone. For the Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus 349 C. E, it was used for the burial of Junius Bassus, whose death occurred in 359 CE and it features Christian themes from the old and New Testament. Bassus had shortly converted to Christianity prior to his death. The portrayal of Christ entering Jerusalem implied the triumphal arrival of an emperor into the city and also represents Christ’s earthly authority (Beckwith, 2012). On top of that, the Sarcophagus shows the suffering of Job to illustrate that the righteous must endure the suffering and discomfort in life.
