The book The Train to Crystal City is narrated through the lives of two teenage girls who both lived at Crystal City at a time when World War 2 was going on. The two girls, Ingrid Eiserloh and Sumi Utsushigawa, were American-born, one being German-American and the other Japanese-American (Russell). The story of how the teenage girls get separated from their fathers who are unwilling parties in an exchange program used by America to get back more important Americans like Diplomats who were held in Japan and Germany is told in a way that has never been told before. The book uncovers a history of America during the 2nd World War, in an unpopular event that brought suffering to immigrants and their American-born children.
