The fear of being victimized is found prevalence to the population that appears to have been vulnerable and isolated in the community. Such people include the elderly, unmarried women, the elderly with poor health as well as all women in general. This study will brief on the concepts behind the fear of being a crime victim in relation to sex and age and discuss some of the reasons as to why some of the groups are vulnerable to being crime victims while other happen to be victimized. Sex and age as factors of fear of crime victimization There has been an increased rate in crime rates in the recent years in a number of streets worldwide. A study done concerning the American society reveals that the fear of being victimized has been increasingly noted especially among the poor, the aged and female group as well.

It is confirmed that a lot of cases related to sexual assault were reported by women. This implies that the women are subject to general fear of crime and in particular sexual assault. According to a research conducted by Ferraro showed that both gender recorded the same levels of fear when involving non-violent crimes while when rape was included in the category, fear of crime in women rose significantly (Ferraro, 2017). This greatest fear is not the violent act of rape but rather the effects of the act. Reasons as to why females and elderly are more fearful on becoming crime victims despite being less victimized than male It is commonly known that men happen to be committing crimes rather than women and elderly.
