It has been found that there are more single-sex governmental and Catholic schools for girls than boys and this has led to more boys being in coeducational schools. There is a deficit of evidence showing that single-sex schooling is better than coeducation and it is, therefore, more important for parents to consider what they want to gain out of the school and how they would want their children to develop. In this paper, the advantages of both single-sex schooling and coeducation will be evaluated. For boys, it allows them to pursue interests that are usually considered to be for females. Single-sex schools allow both sexes to think autonomously without setting limits on themselves. They become more focused on their abilities and interest and the stereotypical beliefs have little influence on them. However, there are those who feel that co-educational schools are more advantageous than single-sex schools. One of the reasons for this is that co-educational schools improve the social skills of children. Learning how to interact in such an environment gives students the confidence to interact in other settings such as college and workplace where both sexes are involved. This further improves their communication skills since the sexes have different ways of expressing themselves. While females are more open about their feelings, men tend to be more reserved.
