How Does Family Define Culture in Art? Student’s name Institutional Affiliation A family is regarded to as the basic unit of each society. Every individual belongs to a particular family. Individuals become members of a family by birth marriage as well as adoption. Over the years different forms of arts such as paintings have been used to express family values and the traditions of families. A detailed analysis of family paintings from between the 16th to the 21st century reveals the family structure the culture as well as the inadequacies of the families portrayed. The Family Structure and Values The majority of the family paintings from between the 16th and 17th century portray a father mother and their children. This hints to the fact that an ideal family should comprise of these three members. Some French paintings from the 17th century increased. Moreover gender roles have changed. Traditionally women were expected to be submissive. Men on the other hand were the heads of the family and were responsible for making important decisions in the family. Today however this has changed because in some families both the mother and the father have equal rights in making decisions pertinent to the family. Additionally unlike the traditional family members who would even value the country before their own family modern family members place their families before their friends politics or religion.
