Matveevaa & Simagina (2017) highlights that all management functions are intertwined and thus need strategic integration for the eventual success of organizational goals. Planning involves setting the present and future goals and determining the strategies to achieve those goals. Planning entails the how, when, and what of performance in an organization (Matveevaa & Simagina, 2017). In the planning process, top management sets the objectives as per the organizational purpose, mission, environment, business forecasts, and available resources. After that, strategies and courses of action to achieve the set objectives are developed at various levels of management. It goes beyond managing the activities to include communicating, motivating, and encouraging the subordinates to achieve high productivity. In this role, managers are supposed to understand the personalities, values, abilities, and attitudes of their subordinates to lead them towards achieving the set objectives effectively (Conkright, 2015).
