Longs economic plan

Document 1

Long felt that the great depression was a consequence of the great disparity that existed between the super rich and ordinary Americans. According to him, the recovery from the economic collapse was impossible as the largest share of the nation’s wealth was held by only 15% of the population (Long, np). The capitalist system led to mass suffering that led to civil unrest whereby the poor were struggling with debts during the economic distress as the concentration of money was only the experience of a handful wealthy like bankers and industrialists. Therefore, Long’s economic plan could be said to be the best relieve program for the poor as it aimed at equal distribution of resources and capital to all Americans thus bringing relief to the poor society.
