it is a 2 page answer regarding white interpreters for the deaf

This two-week discussion will engage critically with the readings related directly to whiteness, white privilege, white supremacy, and white fragility. This issue is important to our class for two reasons: one, white privilege and white supremacy are part of the current public conversation; two, while Deaf consumers are extremely diverse, the interpreters who serve them are often white. (RID membership is roughly 90 percent white; it is also 90% female; discussions of issues raised by this intersectionality are welcome). The overall goal of this discussion is to consider the concept of whiteness -- a social construction -- in the context of morals, ethics, and values in American culture and Deaf culture. You will be assessed based on: the depth of your engagement with the readings; the productiveness (or lack thereof) of your dialogues with others; your connections of this conversation to Kidder and other readings; your connections of this conversation to the educational setting, to interpreting, and to Deaf culture. A few suggestions before approaching what can be a sensitive topic: Do all the reading first, and you might start with Sarah Watts' "White Fragility is Real." As you read the other texts, think about the four questions she lays out, which aren't uncommon at all when discussing issues related to race. At what point do you experience one of these? What do you make of that? attachments, use these articles and the web: https://www.salon.com/2016/07/18/white_fragility_is_real_4_questions_white_people_should_ask_themselves_during_discussions_about_race/ https://admin.artsci.washington.edu/sites/adming/files/unpacking-invisible-knapsack.pdf http://www.streetleverage.com/2013/08/stephanie-feyne-authenticity-the-impact-of-a-sign-language-interpreters-choices/
