Single polymer growth dynamics

The researchers experimented on several polymers and catalysts in order to get more information about the growth of a single polymer. Hypothesis The hypothesis to this experiment was that growth of single polymer happens when more monomers are added. The researchers thought that as new monomers are inserted in the polymer, they take some certain dihedral angles that introduce torsional strains in the newly grown chain, causing it to form entanglements, which are held together temporarily by intrachain van der Waals interactions. The catalyst molecules add monomers to the growing polymer. However, it is not clear whether a single polymer growth would happen in a similar manner. When a higher pulling force is applied, the waiting time shortened. In addition, the torsional angle energy remains the same during the pulling.
