Student Name Course Name Assignment Topic Date The Work of William Wells Brown William Wells Brown was a fugitive slave who became a renowned writer in the nineteenth century. William was born in Kentucky as a slave on the farm of John Young at around 1814 and he lived with the Young family working on the farm and being hired out to other business people. He received basic education at the farm under his master who formed a foundation for his career as a journalist in Canada and later on as a writer. He was treated harshly while working for Dr. Young and he attempted to run away severally (Ezra). His experiences as a slave on the farm and business trips as a hired servant gave him the material to write about in his books. In 1847 he published two books one titled the “Narrative of William W. Brown a for freedom of black slaves. Through his literature Brown was able to critique the system of slavery in America and state that children born to slave women should not be subjected to the same system of oppression. Some women were brutally exploited and injured as they served as slaved which was against human rights. The events in the life of William Brown helped to show the effects of slavery on an individual’s life as well as in the family. The novelist will be recognized for his relevant work and contribution to the abolition of the slave trade from the nineteenth-century era. Works Cited Baraw Charles.
