In view of this, the essay aims to contradict some of the facts presented by Cicero regarding the event. Cicero’s arguments lack credibility and are untruthful to some extent, like his statement regarding the location of the murder. Context In pro-Milone, Cicero argues in favour of Titus Annius Milo, who killed Publius Clodius. It is noteworthy that Cicero despised the latter and vehemently defended Milo when he was accused of murdering Clodius (West 4). The trial, in which Milo was being accused of killing Clodius was a result of a chance meeting between the two and an altercation ensued. For one, he despised Cicero for past wrongdoing. In 58, Clodius succeeds in devising ploys that led to the banishment of Cicero because he betrayed him in a trial in which he was implicated for sacrilege (Cicero).

Thanks to Milo’s crooks and Pompei, he was able to return to the city. Alluding to that story, it is evident that the man had a lot of contempt for Cicero hence, he would be blind to any wrongdoing that the Milo commits. Again, the activities of Claudius, though vile in many cases, do not justify the notion that he is capable of only criminal endeavours. As mentioned above, Cicero had a gang of thugs who frightened the city dwellers. Moreover, he and Pompey had now become friends, and with the power the latter had, injustice would prevail. Again, as the despicable man that Clodius was fashioned to be, Milo’s death was beneficial to him because he would become praetor without Milo being his consul.

Again, Cicero stated that Milo benefited from Clodius since he got votes from him and his death also jeopardized his career (Cicero). Nonetheless, he did not acknowledge that Milo had thugs of his own who in fact, helped him get back to the city. In truth, the incident occurred at the roadside near an inn in Boville (Cicero). The omission not only makes his argument that Clodius plotted the murder and lay in wait to ambush Milo flawed. In fact, if he is capable of lying about the location, which was crucial to the case, he would be lying about other details as well. For instance, maybe Milo knew about the ambush and even planned to kill Cicero and use his journey as a cover up for his misdeeds.
