We will start by discussing their origins and how they developed over time. Then, we will look at their key beliefs and how they differ. Finally, we will discuss the impact that each philosophy has had on Chinese culture. Who are Lao Tzu and Confucius? Confucianism is a philosophy based on the teachings of Confucius, who lived from 551 to 479 BC. It stresses the importance of ethics, proper behavior, and good governance. I will just hit the highlights. Compare And Contrast Confucianism and Daoism What do Confucianism and Taoism have in common? • Both Confucianism and Taoism originated in China over 2000 years ago. • They were responses to different issues and problems that the Chinese people were facing at the time. Confucianism was a response to the disorder and chaos of the Warring States period, while Taoism was a reaction to the strict and confining rules of Confucianism.

• Both philosophies stress the importance of living in harmony with nature and each other. For Confucians, self-cultivation is about developing oneself morally and intellectually. Both philosophies believe that by improving themselves, people can make society better as a whole. Both Confucianism and Daoism emphasize the importance of harmonious relationships within society. They teach people to live in accordance with the natural order of things. Both philosophies focus on inner peace. De is translated as "authentic power" or "integrity” and refers to the inner strength and goodness that comes from living in harmony with nature. Despite these differences, both Daoism and Confucianism have had a profound impact on Chinese culture and society. Both philosophies continue to be influential even today. Many people still follow the teachings of these two great thinkers, and their ideas have shaped the way that China has developed over the centuries.
