American Political and Social System with reference to the Mexico City and Beijing Olympics Name Institutional affiliation Introduction Both the 1968 Olympics in the Mexico City and the 2008 Beijing Olympics played a significant role in reflecting the political and social mood in the United States. The two historical events portrayed the American society at different eras and reflected both the social and political environment surrounding the American people. The Mexico City Olympics in 1968 stood out to be one of the most politically charged Olympics ever witnessed characterized by students protesting against misuse of the funds on the Olympics by the Mexican government instead of funding the social programs (Witherspoon 2016 p. 123). These protests claimed over 200 hundred lives and above 1000 individuals injured marking the event to be recognizable in the human history thus worth being used as a reference point to the American society during this system composed of all races including the black.
