Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and “Kidnapped” (Stevenson, 1906). His synopsis highlights him being born in 1850 in Scotland, specifically Edinburgh. His early life was oriented towards engineering, which he spent time at his father’s lighthouse. While at school, he got the attention of artists, painters and writers, and law which evoked his spirit of adventure. Dick (Richard Shelton) is depicted at Tunstall Moat House, as Sir Daniel Brackley’s ward (The Black Arrow, 1888). The novel starts with ‘The Black Arrow,’ striking Nicholas Appleyard and killing him. This is a group of outlaws, and they attack Nicholas they leave Brackley’s, a warning message that he and his men, Oliver Oates and Bennet Hatch will face a similar predicament. Additionally, they notify Dick of his father’s suspicious death circumstances.

This leaves Dick wondering if Brackley’s had anything to do with his dad’s death. Furthermore, Dick discovers the real Joanna in Matcham, and they confess of their love for each other (The Black Arrow, 1888). Dick’s life is in danger, and the only solution is to join The Black Arrows. After several months in The Black Arrows, Joanna is planned to be married to Lord Shoreby and, he together with his crew fight by sea and land to rescue her. Their fight is unsuccessful even after stealing the ship, The Good Hope. Dick manages to befriend Joana’s guardian, Lord Foxham. The Brackley letter is also handed over to Risingham, which reveals a series of conspiracies that lead Risingham to release Lawless and Dick.
