Student Instructor Course Date Words Can Kill 1. Define the project The essay on Haiti Words Can Kill is an essay that was written by Rebecca Solnit’s who wrote a very insightful article about the dangers that Haiti witnessed. This earthquake was tremendous and powerful earthquakes that hit the island and that brought a devastating effect on the people of Haiti. Consequently the essay written by Rebecca Solnit is one of the most insightful articles which show how the people of Haiti were mistreated by the police due to the increase in the number of crimes in the country (Solnit 125). The offenses in the country are greatly influenced by every disaster that occurs in any country in this case Haiti where crimes against humanity were using their energy to help the people affected and in need. These headlines lead to the obsession of the media to terming the people as looters even though they had a different meaning to the statements they make; it changes the whole story. Therefore it becomes difficult for Rebecca Solnit to successfully achieve her purpose because the media always has a way of being listened to; this is because the words they use portray a very different meaning to both the armed authorities and people affected. Words such as ‘looters’ and ‘panic’ are words that kill and may lead to destruction and hate among the people in the city of Haiti. Works Cited Solnit Rebecca.
