Document Preview:

Moorish Architecture Name: Institutional affiliation: Moorish Architecture Moorish architecture defines the different variations of architecture used by the Islam. It is critical mentioning that the architecture uses different forms of motifs in terms of arches calligraphy decorative tiles and vegetative designs among others. Moorish architecture was named after Moors. They were North African people that concurred the Iberian Peninsula and other islands in the Western Mediterranean in the 700s. They were dominant between 711 and 1492. Their architecture had unique elements including muqamas domes ogee arches courtyards voussoirs horseshoe arches among others. The historic precedent selected for this assignment is Castle of Paderne which is also another work under the Moorish architecture. Castle of Paderne This is an ancient fortification constructed in the 12th century by the Berbers in Portugal. This historical precedent covers an area around 7.5 kilometers person to have a better view of the environment and features surrounding the castle. Implementing the same idea ensures that the castle in on the highest point of the city which then allows the clients to have a better view of the environment. The using of a thick wall made of concrete is also an interesting idea that inspired my ideas in creating the project. I also loved how the architects used lower walls; lower than the main walls for purposes of improving security and minimizing access to the castle. This contributed significantly in making frontal attacks difficult by reinforcing security and allowing the inhabitants feel secured. References Portugal Confidential. (2017). Paderne Castle. For a building, you may focus on organizational patterns, spatial relationships, geometries, planes, axes, definition of zones, areas of emphasis, proportion, openings, and/or circulation patterns. For an interior space or furniture piece, you might focus on an expression of lines, forms, planes, geometries, textures, proportion, scale, texture, rhythm, and/or color. Please be specific. For example, "The Greek Parthenon applies a proportional system based on mathematics and sacred geometries. The floor plan has a rectangular and symmetrical organization, surrounded by a plane of rhythmic columns, and a central axis leading from the entry to a central sanctuary." 4) Describe a unique and creative idea inspired by your historic precedent and that could be applied to your own project. Your idea can be related to spatial organization, hierarchy of spaces, or an area of emphasis. Your idea could relate to a clever transition of materials, or a palette of furniture choices, or a unique color combination, or a certain lighting treatment, or the form for the ordering counter. 5) Explain exactly how your ideas were inspired by the historic precedent, and which specific principles and elements of design are involved that you plan to interpret. topic picked: moorish architecture
