It is not always possible to come up with some universal behaviours/way of doing things that would be considered as right. Morality therefore depends on various factors such as the cultural beliefs, education level, religion, personalities, world view etc. Various philosophers throughout history has tried to define morality and explain what it entails. This has led to various theories concerning morality. Some differ significantly from one another while others are closely related. He further argued that the primary way of learning moral virtues was through regular practice (habit) and not necessarily the application of reason. As a result, the best way to measure moral virtue is to consider the activities that people volunatary do, i. e. , what one chooses to do without being compelled.

Another ancient philosopher is Aquinas. He argues that human beings inherited an inclination towards sinning from Adam. Even though we are not fully corrupted with sin, our will is almost always different from that of God due to the sinful nature inherited from Adam. It follows that we require the help of God to live towards perfection. God provides His grace in form of virtues and gifts that are instantiated. One of the modern philosophers to look in to Morals was Immanuel Kant. The one who has good will however will not fall prey to such corruption since they are guided by their moral obligation (goodwill) to do what is right. The last philosopher to be discussed is John Stuart Mill.
