Technology has made it possible for people to shop in bulk at the comfort of their homes and a number of scholars have looked at this aspect and what influences it. Shopping can be considered as a diverse exercise where people get to shop a variety of products that give them the comfort that they need. Paarlberg can be viewed as being effective in his persuasion through the application of ethical appeals; this includes aspects such as ethos, logos, and pathos. The appeals are used in this case to convince the readers towards the arguments presented such as the need for an effective shopping plan. There are a division of shoppers based on preferences and type of shopping and based on the article by Paarlberg, one of the types of these shoppers are the Whole Food Shoppers who opt to shop for food in bulk.

The author paints the picture of the persistence of the hunger issues in both Asia and Africa despite the successful move by the supranational organization's campaigns to reduce the international food prices. He also compares the differences in the modernized farming of the west and the traditional farming in Africa, and he concludes that the farming in Africa and Asia is more productive than that of the western countries. The author also disagrees with the claim that conventional framing is unsanitary by claiming that organic farming poses more dangers than conventional farming. The assumption that the author makes us that most of the western population is made up of wholesale food consumers. Another assumption he makes is that in the western nations, farming is fully modernized while the farming in Africa and Asia is purely traditional.

He, therefore, does not appeal to the emotions of his audience rather their rational knowledge. The author also utilizes the argumentative tools of pathos, logos, and ethos to convince the audience to change their preference to conventional farming as a perfect solution to solving the issues of food insecurity. Pathos is present in the way the author grisly presents the issue of food insecurity in Asia and Africa in a bid to get sympathy form the whole food shoppers. The grisly presentation is inclusive of the claim that there were 850 million malnourished individuals in the underdeveloped nations before 2008. He argues that the percentage of people who are facing food insecurity is likely to rise by 30% over the next decade to reach 645 million peoples.
