The Life of George Washington

At the age of eleven, after the death of his father, Washington had to assist his mother in their ranch as well as watching over his younger siblings. George Washington, therefore, embarked upon the surveyor profession in 1748 and was later appointed to assume a public office at Culpeper Company. Moreover, Washington’s dedicated service as a distinguished commanding general of the revolutionary army significantly reinforced his military career, hence making him a renowned war-winning General in the American history (Palmer 145). Accordingly, assessing George Washington's prominence and accomplishments entails analyzing two significant aspects of his life including, his military career as commander in chief of the Continental Army, as well as his political career as the president of the constitutional convention, and the first President of the United States of America.

General George Washington’s military career emerged at the age of 21 when he petitioned Governor Dinwiddie for the adjutant general post. Following the ambush that killed their leader, the French retaliated by attacking all the fortifications which Washington had established forcing him and his troops to surrender, released on parole and sent back to Virginia. Secondly, George Washington was also prominent due to his high political influence. Evidently, the American Revolution transformed George Washington political career forever, both because of the respect he acclaimed throughout the world and for his perseverance in fighting for what was right. According to Allen (123), once he embarked on a particular task, Washington would undertake the task to the best of his ability. A significant fact that Allen (128) makes about Washington is his perspective concerning slavery.

He nominated the first presidential cabinet to assist in making critical government decisions, such as the writing of the Bill of Rights. Furthermore, when the country experienced a huge national deficit, George sought the expertise of Alexander Hamilton and appointed him as he appointing as the Secretary of Treasury. They both designed and put in place the first National Bank whose sole purpose was to manage all the debt that the federal government handled (Marshall 70). In brief, Washington’s accomplishments as the first president of US set the pace for his successors, especially regarding the fact that although George was chosen twice to be President, he declined the offer. In conclusion, George Washington played an important role in leading the America victory over Great Britain during the American Revolution, thus helping the country gain independence.
