Social Responsibility Student’s Name Course Institution/Affiliation Lecturer Date Analysis of Social Responsibility and Ethical Decision Making Most companies seek to give back to the communities and the society around them in what is commonly referred to as corporate social responsibility. The recent years have seen more companies take up additional investments in the form of CSR (McWilliams 2000 3). ITC Limited is a company dealing with tobacco products in India. In a bid to increase their investments as a form of social responsibility the company has invested its resources in other business segments such as packaging confectionaries paperboards as well information technology among others. With a market capitalization nearing US$14 billion and an annual turnover of more than US$5billion it is quite apparent that ITC is a company was under pressure to divest its equities while seeking other avenues of investment besides cigarette seem to have been considered as part of the ethical issues. Besides the company also considers the welfare of the workers and the stakeholders in the decision-making process. It also apparent that the company considers the various lapses that may come with the decisions made. For instance ITC considers the likelihood of a drop in profit if there is decreased cigarette production. The effect of this fact is that there may be drops in the income for the tobacco farmers and the decreased profits for the shareholders while at the same time decreasing the consumption of the product.
