Abstract The research focuses on the intergenerational processes which are related to the familism values that impact adolescent mothers their children. The data in the investigation was collected through an in-home interview on an estimate of 180 Mexican –origin families on different stages of their pregnancy (Zeiders Umaña-Taylor Jahromi & Updegraff 2015). The study also uses data from grandmothers together with a direct assessment of the teenage mothers’ children. The researchers were able to utilize the longitudinal path analysis by linking the grandmother’s familism behaviors and values to the parenting processes of adolescent mothers. The study also focuses on the developmental needs this factors significantly impact the teenage mothers’ psychosocial functioning. Conclusion The study on the adolescent mothers from the Mexican origin families provides significant information on the ways through which extended family members like grandmothers help in supporting and enhancing the teen parents efficacy in the parenthood process. Therefore grandmothers should increase communication with the teenage mothers during and after pregnancy to better assist in the parenting process.
