Managers have in fact found it difficult running the field as it requires leaders with a clear understanding of the occupation. Nurses are generally people who can effectively self-manage themselves even though they still require support from their leaders. A number of experts have revealed that there are inadequate nurses to manage public and private clinics and hospitals. Ironically, many of the registered nurses are deserting the field whereas only a small number of students are joining the nursing course. Nurse shortage is generally related with a high nurse turn over and is likely to result to catastrophic effects as regards provision of care to patients (Nei et al. There has been development of a worrying trend where older nursing experts are resorting for more comfy and stress-free jobs while others opt for retiring from the profession (Nei et al. The result has been a dangerous imminent dual bearing on the health care system. The modern world consists of a health care system composed of great demands which have ironically been exhausted as customers continue having enormous expectations from the sector (Nei et al. Besides, some nurses approaching the retirement stage do not meet the learning requirements required for them to serve as educators in nursing schools. Nonetheless, nurses do not have to manage or supervise others in order to place themselves as leaders. A nurse leader generally works efficiently within their unit and endeavors to manifest enthusiasm for their unit objectives thereby directing their groups in a manner that makes it functionally cohesive (Nei et al.

For instance a nurse leader would approach the nursing shortage in a consistent manner as he/she understands the challenges facing the profession then come up with probable solutions to the menace on the other hand, the nurse managers would also solve the issue in an effective manner based on their managerial skills but not as well as the nursing leaders. The nurse managers would employ their management skills to overcome the problem and establish a solution to nurse shortage and nurse turn over. In contrast, nurse leaders endeavor to become mentors in their work places thereby ensuring that fellow workers follow suit (Nei et al. , Snyder, L. A. , & Litwiller, B. J.
