On the part of “Two ways to belong to America,” by Bharati, her main message is based on the different livelihood sisters who once lived the same and behaved the same have taken to live within the new world they live within. According to the essay, when they left India, they were almost identical in appearance and attitude, (Mukherjee, 2010). However, their lives changed with each of them taking a different path from each other, one inclined to the Indian culture of even marrying an Indian and wishing to go back to India while the other adopted a new culture and married a person of different culture. The worry is about the new immigration rules that could see both of them separated completely in life.

On its part, the poem, “The New Colossus,” by Emma provides to communicate an issue of the suffering of a mighty woman in the new land where she has been exiled. The woman is described as a mighty one with a torch of flames. Under this, it gives the audience a created vivid image about the character of that woman and whom they consider as mighty. It is aimed at creating a perception of her influence and how strong she was away from the other women in society. The author uses a hidden message to get the attention of the right audience who can interpret the message. Looking at the essay and the poem, it is clear that they are different ways through which a message of oppression and challenges that women go through in the society.
