Two Critical Casebooks
Read Chapter 11: Two Critical Casebooks from your textbook. Once you are at Chapter 11 in the e-text you will see that there are 2 sections: one is entitled Charlotte Perkins Gilman and the other is entitled Alice Walker. Each section has a total of 3 parts: literature by the named author, the writers position writing, and then critical writings (literary criticism) on the named authors by scholars. I want you to read at least 1 text from each section. That means you will be reading a total of 6 things. As you read look for things you can compare and contrast. Jot down similarities and differences in their approaches. Essentially, you will be doing an informal outline, noting similar and different thoughts and ideas between the two articles, both written about the same story. I want you to submit your outlines to me also when you submit the 2-page paper. That means you will be submitting a total of 3 pages (outline as 1 page and then the 2 pages you write).
Respond to the following tasks in a two-page paper:
•Summarize what the articles say about the work of fiction.
•Evaluate the articles' literary criticism and apply your interpretation of them to the story.
•Use those parts of the articles that you agree with in your own evaluation of the story.
•Use those parts with which you don't agree in your analysis by showing why they are wrong, why they don't apply to the story, and why they should not be used to evaluate it.
•Use correctly cited quotes from the text to support your points. Be sure to correctly cite both the articles and the primary text in your post.
