Name Lecturer Course Date Chapter 1 “The Invention and Early Years of the Cinema” Summary Cinema was invented between the 1880s and 1890s – towards the end of the Industrial Revolution. At the time other inventions were also in progress including phonograph (1877) the telephone (1876) and the automobile (the 1890s). Before the invention of film other technological discoveries had to take place. Several preconditions had to be in place for the success of the motion pictures (Thompson & Bordwell 6). For instance the persistence of vision was and phonograph) (Thompson & Bordwell 10) and the Lumiere Brothers (designed a camera that is both a projecting and recording device) (Thompson & Bordwell 12). On the other hand some of the things that count as historically significant are Mutoscope Kinetoscope projecting Praxinoscope Optical Toys and the arrival of the train. All of these devices allowed for the advancement of the cinema as it allows for further improvement towards quality moving pictures. Work Cited Thompson K. & Bordwell D.
